Appropriate Technology Promotion Society, Ernakulam (ATPS) was established in the year 2001. ATPS inherits its legacy from the much acclaimed PEOPLE'S PLAN CAMPAIGN PROGRAMME launched by the State Government of Kerala as a part of the Ninth Five Year Plan.
ATPS has special expertise in undertaking studies pertaining to Telecommunication and Information Technology sectors. The Board of Directors comprises of Retired Engineers from the Telecom companies and professionals in Information Technology sector. The Directors have been part of the technological evolution in the telecommunication sector and keep themselves constantly updated on the implications due to convergence of Voice, Data and Image related technologies. The impact of the same on the services, legal and administrative domain of Telecom companies is constantly being evaluated.

Syndicated studies
ATPS conducted the study on the impacts of implementation of E-GOVERNANCE in Kerala. The study was widely acclaimed for the proposal of a CITIZEN ID based service rendering mechanism in Government. The study was conducted using the data collected from all Government departments and undertakings across the state of Kerala.
Market Research
ATPS conducted the market research for OPEN SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS ICS LTD, Ernakulam for identifying the customer perception and employee perception of BSNL vis-a-vis converting the Central Telegraph Offices into Customer Service Centres. The market survey included Cellular mobile customers, Basic telephony customers of BSNL. The findings were implemented by BSNL by upgrading CTO, Ernakulam into a one stop Customer Service Centre.
Customer Awareness & Public Awareness campaigns
ATPS has been periodically organising workshops under the banner VIVARA SANGAMAM among civil service employees and general public to identify needs of modernisation using Information Technology.
Publishing periodicals
ATPS is the publisher of VIVARA VICHARAM the publication in Malayalam which demystifies IT for the benefit of the masses and educates them on the need of public ownership in digital technologies.
Administrative & Management Consultancy
The CHANGE MANAGEMENT suggestions in implementing a 12 hour office working schedule and restructuring front office functions as a part of upgrading Central Telegraph Office, BSNL Ernakulam into a one stop Customer Service Centre drew a great deal of appreciation from the employees and the management of BSNL.
